Learnings for Growth - Software Professionals

Building a resume

  • Keep it 100% genuine.
  • Use it as a retrospective of your experience.

Hands-on experience with modern technologies

  • Use projects to cover the breadth and depth of technologies.
  • Use them to develop LLD skills, code-review experience, production experience, or anything your work has not given you the opportunity to practise.
  • Some groundwork—reading, courses, training, or certifications—may be needed, but think project first.
  • Build with AI, review the work, and make it production-ready.
  • Make sure the code is written in a way you understand and would have written yourself: clean, easy to understand, and easy to change later without AI.

Revision and filling gaps

  • Revisit DSA, algorithms, and computer fundamentals.
  • What you need to work on depends on your level and current gaps.

High-level system design and architecture

  • Read useful notes and blogs.
  • You can demonstrate an idea in a project only when you understand where it can be applied.

What matters more

  • Practical demonstration matters more than ever.
  • Leadership skills matter: authenticity, a learning attitude, clear communication, being easy to collaborate with, and being receptive to feedback.

Interview preparation

My interview preparation starts when an interview is actually scheduled. Companies that require more revision of past skills usually provide time accordingly:

  • Google: around one month on average.
  • Meta: around three weeks.

I then focus on:

  • A quick review of the work I have done.
  • Interview experiences and company-specific leadership principles.
  • Staying calm and maintaining a positive attitude.
